Jennifer Kidwell

Jennifer Kidwell is a gifted teacher and musician who just completed her 16th year of teaching. She team teaches all orchestras and works especially with the cello and bass students at Space Center Intermediate with Lisa Black.

Mrs. Kidwell graduated Summa Cum Lade University of Texas at Austin with both a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Bachelor of Science in Math, and earned a Certificate of Performance for her artistry as a cellist. She started as a student with Charles Jones and also studied cello with two highly respected cellists, Anthony Elliott and Phyllis Young.

Mrs. Kidwell has taught both intermediate and high school orchestras in Brazosport, La Porte and Clear Creek ISD. All of her orchestras have competed well and won Superior ratings in UIL competitions. She is a member of TMAA, TMEA, ASTA and TODA. She has also been named in Who’s Who in America’s Teachers and awarded Space Center Intermediate’s Faculty Award for Excellence.

Mrs. Kidwell and her co-director Lisa Black have led the SCIS Orchestras to consecutive UIL sweepstakes. The team also earned $10,000 technology grant for their orchestra. In 2008, they were awarded a grant to study “Strings Without Boundaries” for a week in Pittsburgh with Julie Lyons Lieberman.

Mrs. Kidwell also enjoys performing as a freelance cellist and spending time with her husband and three young children.
